Rock and Rolla

Sometimes the subtleties or answers to life can be found in the lyrics of a song. Profound, I know, but how many people can remember a fun summer, amazing times with friends or the heartbreak of romance gone afoul simply through the tones of music? If you are like me, you recall the popular songs that were playing at that time. They become a flash point to that time in your life, almost a touchstone if you will, for when you felt the happiest or the saddest.

In 1991, I was on hiatus from college, having given up on the idea of becoming a fashion photographer in New York. I was commuting an hour to work in Birmingham everyday while working for a local bank. My thoughts go back to my used car, with no air conditioning as I slugged through 102 degree summer weather while stuck in traffic on I-75. I'm sure I was a trucker's delight as I regularly shimmied out of my slip and panty hose on the expressway for relief from the heat. You should know that if it is hot enough...anyone will lose their pride. I remember listening to “It ain’t over till it’s over” and thinking am I an “American Woman” asking life “Are you gonna go my way”? Or should I just “Fly Away”?

If your “Mama Said” you should know the artist I was listening to, then she was right. He is the iconic Lenny Kravitz with his sultry hip sound. Lenny has an amazing wardrobe, and to appreciate his sense of style, is to love him even more. Those ripped-out, leather-embossed, laced-up-the-front, tight huggin’ jeans help establish Lenny (or Romeo Blue as he used to be known as) as the living Rock legend he is today.

DETROIT ROCKS TOO!
Lorne began his professional fashion career as an apprentice to Calvin Durham, who designed clothing back in the 60's and 70's for many of the most legendary rock stars and musicians in history, including: The Rolling Stones, Parliament Funkadelic, Rick James, Miles Davis, ...to name a few. During his apprenticeship, after he became advanced enough as a designer, he had the privilege of designing leather apparel and Jewelry for the World Renowned "Billy Martin's" Boutique in Sunset Plaza in the heart of Hollywood, California. His items have been purchased by some of Hollywood's most notorious celebrities who frequented the Billy Martin's boutique.
After his apprenticeship, he struck out on his own, and has been creating one-of-a-kind leather and jewelry pieces ever since. His work has been featured on a Fruit of the Loom commercial, Fashion in Detroit (fashion show), Detroit Fashion Week, and he has created pieces for other members of Detroit's fashion community. Designing for men and women, Lorne’s masterpieces are being sold at Designer Resale Boutique. They include clothes, jewelry, satchels and more…

At Designer Resale Boutique, we have a pair of jeans that were designed for Lenny Kravitz on display and for sale. They showcase the work of the amazingly talented fashion designer Lorne Lubin. Come in and take a look!
