A New Beginning...Resale Rhetoric

As a new shop owner, it is mandatory to get out to socialize and network. I recently met Jay Mc at such an occasion and ended up in a very interesting conversation. I was complementing his featured blogs and lamenting that I have nothing to write about because it seems like so much fun.

He pointed out that there is always something to say which gave my imagination a run for its money. While I teach part-time English at a local college, I am a writer in disguise and yet always struggle with something to say that is "interesting" to write about. Because what is interesting? To many people, that means something completely different.

I have been reminded by the local media that the things I do in my life such as holding four jobs, working on my second masters and being charitably involved in my community is very interesting. But I hesitate to talk about myself thinking to keep that information private but I am sure you will learn more about me in these blogs.

So back to my conversation with Jay Mc. I told him the only thing that is note worthy and remotely interesting would be the stories behind why people consign their items to a resale store. There are many wonderful and funny stories. His comment, “start a blog” so I am taking (what I hope will soon be a good friend’s) advice and am starting this blog with a story about Florida.

MIAMI: TAKE “THINKING” OFF MY MIND
I spent three years living in the Tampa Florida area. Being a Midwestern girl, Florida was an adjustment between six pack abs, big boobs, perpetually tanned bodies and geriatric heaven filled with dentures, depends undergarments and mothball smells. Such a conflicted region! The state of Florida also has five quadrants of vastly different lifestyles located in: Jacksonville, Pensacola, Tampa, Key West and Miami. By far the most upscale and dramatic is the Miami area.

I visited South Beach with a friend and, even a hardcore Midwestern party girl like myself, got caught up in Miami. Let’s just say I stopped by a bar with slush drinks and ordered a “call a cab”. Well, I didn’t call a cab but I did get sick in the bathroom after two drinks. My second visit to South Beach was a little better but ended up drinking Mojito’s with my boss. Yikes!

So the story behind our Mandalay Dress is one I am somewhat familiar with the reasoning behind the purchase. Apparently, our consigner was drinking with friends and having a great time. So much so, that they decided to stop into a few boutiques to try on clothes and shoes. $783 later, she had purchased this very beautiful, revealing cream-colored dress with criss cross straps and beautiful inlay stones and beaded elements. I don’t know if she was feeling her inner wildcat because when she sobered up, she realized her mistake but could not return the dress.

So now it is on consignment at our boutique looking for a another sexy wildcat who will wear it out on a summer evening. Our store's price points are typically very resonable. But our consigner would like to try to recoup some of her misspent money. This dress is definitely an attention getter and at a price of $565 (considering it has never been worn) and great deal on an exclusive designer brand. The big plus is that it is a “sure” thing...wink...for a great evening. We do have a layaway plan so if you are looking for a smokin’ hot dress for this summer…put your money down on it now because it is a classic design.

Signing off for now but have another story to tell soon about a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti fire engine red, stilettos shoes with silver metal heels and embellishment on the tip of the shoe.
